Three years in the making, The Weekend People's self-titled debut has been an ongoing home-recording project that has endured Mark moving three times: twice around Melbourne and with a 6-month stint in Perth. It also The Weekend People’s progress from the days as an acoustic duo to the energetic indie-rock quartet they are today, all the while retaining the quality of song writing that the band has become known for.

Work commenced while the band was still just an guitar and piano duo. Drummer David Kleynjens was enlisted to help get the ball rolling on the early sessions, later to be replaced with Peter Guidera and when Sarah Holmes joined the group on bass, the lineup was complete.

Despite the drawn out and itinerant recording process, the album maintains a 'live' feel. It draws on a myriad of styles but through uncluttered production it remains cohesive and it's the strength of the song writing and the performance that are the real heroes. It's a warm, honest sound with a hint of darkness and melancholy.

Mascara is the infectious first single taken from The Weekend People's self-titled debut album.

From the opening drum fill, the overdriven guitar stabs and into the catchy as hell chorus, "Mascara" screams the sixties. The Weekend People's trademark slick vocal arrangement with duelling leads sits atop a raw and rhythmic backing: it's pop but with a genuine punk aesthetic.

Mascara was mixed by Cameron McKenzie (Horsehead, Mark Seymour, Epicure). Bonus track on this release only; "Here Comes The Rain Again". Mark and Nick reinvent this Eurythmics classic, with spacious vocals and sparse production.
